Contemporary British Painting Prize 2021

Artist Susan Absolon was the prizewinner of the 2021 CBP Prize, receiving £2000, an essay written about her painting practice by Matthew Burrows MBE, membership to Contemporary British Painting and to be one of the selectors for the 2022 CBP Prize.

Hannah Murgatroyd was awarded ‘Highly Commended’.

The 15 shortlisted artists are: Susan Absolon, Tony Antrobus, Roland Hicks, Martyna Lebryk,  Donna Mclean, Hannah Murgatroyd, Christina Niederberger, Sarah Poots, Daisy Richardson, Tom Robinson, Jesse Leroy Smith, Gary Spratt, Bill Stewart , Zack Thorne and Jan Valik.

The winner was announced on Saturday 6 November at Huddersfield Art Gallery, followed by a ‘Walk & talk’ event led by Judith Tucker on Saturday 11 December. The exhibition then toured to Unit 1 Gallery | Workshop in London.

The prize judges for 2021 were Matthew Burrows MBE, Julie Lomax and Grant Scanlan

The fifteen shortlisted artists were selected by four painters: David Ainley, Karl Bielik, Sikelela Owen and Jo Whittle, winner of the 2019 prize.
