Katherine Russell

Katherine Russell tries to dissimulate a fraction of the mass of imagery that we encounter on a daily basis – often, our only source of visual information that describes the outside world to us. Her work looks at how we as individuals, inevitably engage with these images on a personal, subjective and an emotional level.

Katherine tries to question what meaning some of these contain to her, on a personal and emotional level, by choosing a select few from these multiple image streams as her source material, to then take a step back from them, and to investigate them from her unique perspective as an artist, through the process of painting.

Through this process, Katherine Russell makes works, which are quite moving, and thought provoking, whilst avoiding being judgmental.
